ADB provides $190m for new science university

The latest technology and products in animal feed and livestock production are on display at the International Feed, Livestock and Meat expo, known as Vietstock 2011, that opened yesterday at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in District 7.

HA NOI — The Asian Development Bank yesterday signed two loan agreements totalling US$190 million to fund development of the University of Science and Technology of Ha Noi.

The new university in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park is expected offer international standard teaching and research with strong links to industry, as well as a model for other institutions of higher learning.

"For the nation to progress beyond middle-income status and become an industrialised nation by 2020, Viet Nam needs to accelerate building its knowledge, science and technological capacities," said ADB's country director in Viet Nam Tomoyuki Kimura said at the signing ceremony with the State Bank of Viet Nam.

The Government of France has also committed $140 million to the project over 10 years, with Viet Nam to contribute about $23 million. — VNS
